Applications for Phase four of the Presidential Youth Unemployment Initiative (PYEI), implemented as the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) will open on 26 September 2022, with more than 200 000 jobs on offer.
Applications for these opportunities in the Basic Education sector will close on 16 October 2022.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 years old have been encouraged to apply for these job opportunities, which successful applicants will begin in February of 2023.
The pre-application period commenced on 5 September 2022, which allows those interested in applying to gather all the relevant documents needed when applying.
Applicants will have three weeks from the opening date to submit their applications on the SAYouth.Mobi online recruitment system for the positions.The website is free to use and does not require any data.
The youth who are employed at various schools as education and general school assistants gain meaningful work skills and experience while also benefiting from a stipend.
The experience and skills which they gain through their various duties around the schools they work at will be beneficial in the future career paths of these young people.
Here’s Who Qualifies For Phase 4
- Youths between the ages of 18 and 34 years old when they apply
- Youth must live within a 5 km radius of the school (or 30 km radius if it is a small, micro or farm school)
- Education Assistant (EA) must have a Matric qualification
- General School Assistants (GSA) do not need a Matric qualification
Those who were previously part of the initiative will not be able to apply for Phase 4 teaching assistant jobs.
Applicants must not be employed or participating in any training or learnership programmes, this includes online courses and short courses.
The Department of Basic Education aims to create jobs in the education sector as well as alleviate the high levels of youth unemployment through this initiative.
