South Africans have banned together to help a distressed medical student graduate, who was unable to pay her tuition fees at Wits University.
Mumtaaz Emeran asked for help paying off her tuition fees of nearly R500 000. She posted a video on social media explaining her predicament and within 24 hours, her debt was settled.
Emeran was interviewed by eNCA and spoke about how grateful she is to all the people who helped her.
She said that she did not expect such an overwhelmingly positive response and she hopes that this will encourage many other young people to work hard and follow their dreams.
Emeran received more than she expected and had some money left over which she is planning to use to start a foundation that will help other students who have found themselves in a similar situation.
Through match funding and partnering with other institutions, she would like to start this initiative. The foundation will help South African students, as South Africans helped Emeran pay her tuition fees.
More details on the foundation will be posted by Emeran, so keep an eye out for more news about her initiative.
