Reports have been circulating that a wealthy student has been funded by NSFAS and the public has since been reacting on social media with anger and confusion.

Those on social media have said that people are struggling to get funding from NSFAS and are desperate to receive funding for their studies but this individual who could afford to pay out of pocket is taking funding away from someone who needs it. One Twitter user said, "Rich kids applying for NSFAS when they can afford is them practicing to steal in the future".

There is no solid information on the identity of the student. However, it was said that her mother passed away in 2008 and she was then adopted by her aunt who was legally seen as her parent. She then lived in Italy for years and said she was benefitting from NSFAS "because I can".

When she was in South Africa, she left Bloemfontein and went to Varsity College in Sandton. It was also reported that mother is an ambassador in Spain. She is said to have been boasting about how wealthy and well-off she is.

Members of the public are angered and upset by the situation. This has lead to many questioning how this student was able to receive approval for funding from NSFAS and whether the organisation is doing appropriate background checks.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is an organisation which provides financial aid to poor students so that they can pay for the cost of their tertiary education.

Another individual reacting to the situation said, "Some people are so lucky. Getting NSFAS just for vibes. Do you know how hard it is to get NSFAS. Jumping from affidavit to affidavit trying to prove how poor you are just so you could be funded."
