VUT Gets Covid Cases As Students Are About To Return


A staff member at Vaal University of Technology in Gauteng has tested positive for Covid-19 as the University prepares to reopen it's doors. 

At Vaal University of Technology, an essential staff member has tested positive for the coronavirus days before Universities are set to open up again and allow the return of students.

The staff member is in the Intensive Care Unit. 

Sixteen other staff members that came into contact with the individual have been tested. Eight have tested negative for the virus while the others unknown. 

On 1 June, 33% of the student body is set to return to campuses. The news of this staff member's positive result came after the University had completed sanitising the main campus, satellite campuses and student residences. This staff member was one of the University's employees that was allowed on the campus to carry out essential services. 

The University has said that they have things under control with this situation and have encouraged students to not start panicking.
