The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) is a contact teaching and learning institution which has recently welcomed students back to its campuses after Covid-19 regulations caused all learning to move online.

The return to the VUT campuses are however very limited as South Africa observes an Alert level 1 Covid-19 lockdown.

The university sent out a communication which indicated who would be required to attend on campus academic activities, students were also required to check their email communications to find out if they needed to return to campus.

VUT has a Covid-19 Campus Biosafety Task Team which ensures that the university and all its stakeholders are protected from Covid-19.

The university has been making use of a permit system to control access and maintain security control at all access points. However, there has been concerns raised about how this system works during campus rush hours.

The Covid-19 Campus Biosafety Task Team says they are aware of these concerns and they are asking everyone to be patient and cooperate with the existing access processes and systems, until the biometric system has been installed.

All stakeholders will be informed about when the biometric system will be implemented on campus.

VUT currently has no vaccination exclusions, however only students who are on class lists for face to face teaching and learning will be able to access the campus.

The university encourage its students to vaccinate so that the insititution and the rest of the country may exit the National State of Disaster.

All individuals entering the campus will be screened and Covid-19 protocols will be in place at all times.

The next campus vaccination drive will be held on Tuesday, 5 April 2022 at the Desmond Tutu Great Hall from 9am to 2pm. All you are required to bring along with you is your ID, driver’s license or a signed affidavit from SAPS, confirming your identity.
