2021 was an unusual year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and drawn-out lockdown protocols. Universities, such as Unisa, made many changes.
Unisa online exams will run from 17 January 2022 till 4 March 2022 with Unisa saying, "we encourage all students to start studying and prepare for the online exams".
The university said:
Most modules will require you to have a device (smartphone, tablet, iPad, laptop, or desktop) and data to ensure that you successfully write the exams. Yet still, some modules will require additional technical specifications, eg. webcams, and high-speed internet.
Students will receive communication in relation to that from their designated lecturers.
Details about the different exam formats and platforms for your modules have been communicated together with the timetable and have been released already.

Registered Unisa students living in South Africa will receive 30GB of data per month, 10GB anytime and 20GB night time, for the duration of the examination.
This is to ensure that the individual student has sufficient data and connectivity to prepare for the exams, completing the exam successfully.
Students need to follow these steps to receive data:
- Make sure that your cell phone number is Rica'd and correct on myUnisa so that you can benefit from the data for your examinations.
- To update your details: login to myUnisa, click on myAdmin / Student Admin / Biographical Details / Update Contact Detail.
- Should your current data package be greater than the Unisa provisioned one, you are advised to get a different SIM where your data will be loaded.
Students are advised to follow the above steps before 12:00 on 5 January 2022, after which the list of mobile numbers will be extracted to serve as a master reference for MNOs to activate data.
