Thandeka Hlatshwayo, a Unisa student who completed her teaching qualification, says her life remains stuck as the institution fails to issue her with a certificate.
Hlatshwayo completed her teaching qualification in 2019 and claims that the institution has been sending her back and forth with issuing her the certificate.
I have been emailing UNISA and calling them without any response from their side. I’m so disappointed with UNISA and I’m not alone there is a lot of us.
The student leadership has also indicated that they have been working hard to resolve the issue with the institution to ensure that students get their certificates but failed. The student leadership however promises to continue trying to engage with UNISA management to find a solution.
Reports suspects that the institution is facing a management and administration crisis. On 14 September 2020, the institution released a statement confirming the issue and delivery of certificates to students.
UNISA’s Acting Vice-principal for teaching and learning, Veronica Mckay also made a public announcement in August saying the UNISA is dealing with the issue of student’s missing certificates.
Up until now, students were able to collect their certificates but with the lockdown regulations in place, that fell away. I now understand that various venues where students ordinarily would have graduated will be handing out their certificates.
Mckay had confirmed that the certificates were issued to students, but the pandemic had been delaying operations at the university, and that was in August 2021.
Students like Hlatshwayo who have been waiting for their certificates since 2019 and unable to apply for jobs remain frustrated today as the institution continues to fail to issue their certificates.
