The Department of Employment and Labour has said that the Unemployment Insurance Fund is making progress with capturing and processing May Covid-19 relief benefit applications. They have also said that faster payments will be made.

UIF has also said that they will ensure that any outstanding payments are processed. The fund has since paid out around R16,5 billion for their TERS fund.

Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, has said, "I have been assured that we would realise significant improvements in terms of payment turnaround time from claim submission."

Some TERS beneficiaries have been paid within 24 to 48 hours, which shows great improvement since April.

About 3.2 million workers from 279,111 employers have benefitted from the UIF’s R16.5 billion.

If you have contributed to UIF in the past and would like to claim for a benefit during the Covid-19 lockdown visit the UIF Website for details.
