Tips To Prevent Spread Of Covid-19 Within Households

Living with someone who is confirmed or suspected of having Covid-19? Here are some tips to prevent the spread of the virus to other members of your family.

These are some tips for home care for people with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 positive statuses. Take care of yourself and your family. 

No visitors should come to the home during the 14 days the patient is quarantining.

For all members of the household:

When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your flexed elbow or use a disposable tissue and discard immediately after use.

Avoid unnecessary exposure to the person who is sick and avoid sharing items, such as eating utensils, drinks and towels. 

Minimise use of shared spaces.

For person who is suspected or confirmed positive for Covid-19:

Remain in quarantine for 14 days. Even if you feel better, you should stay in quarantine for 14 days.

Maintain a distance of more than three steps from all household members.

If possible, you should use a separate bathroom and washing facilities and it should be cleaned after every use.

Should be isolated in a well-ventilated single room. If a fan is available, point it out of one window and keep another window open to facilitate increased air exchange in the room. 

For caregivers:

Assign one person to be the caregiver.

The caregiver should ideally maintain a distance of more than one meter.

Identify surfaces that are frequently touched by the ill person. Clean and disinfect those surfaces daily.
