Sassa Will Include Refugees In R350 Grant
Government is being ordered to have Sassa include refugees in payouts of the R350 grant. This comes after many complaints concerning exclusions within the grant. Minister Lindiwe Zulu has ten days to make the change and announce it.
Refugees might be included in those who can benefit from Sassa's R350 grant. There have been many complaints which said Sassa was excluding many of those who were in need.
This comes after the High Court in Pretoria took the side of refugees and asylum seekers in their rulings. The Court has said that directions given by Minister Lindiwe Zulu were 'unlawful' and 'unconstitutional'. They have now ordered Government to have these individuals included in the grant.
This would see special permit holders from Lesotho, Angola and Zimbabwe and asylum seekers being able to benefit. Sassa extending this grant to refugees will see even more relief.
Zulu now has five days to measure the costs these inclusions will total to and another five days for the changes to who is included to be announced.
