SASSA received so many applications that it made the system slow down and crash. This then lead to SASSA opening up more ways to apply through Facebook and GovChat.

In just a minute, when applications opened, SASSA already received 2000 applications.

Problems also surfaced with the WhatsApp line but it is now up and running, said SASSA spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi.

Here are the ways to apply for the R350 grant:

It was also said that if you applied and were approved during the previous round of the grant, you would have to apply again.

Letsatsi explained this:

Applicants are urged to only submit one application and to keep an eye on their SASSA grant application status.

SASSA is also urging applicants to make sure the banking details, cellphone numbers and ID numbers being submitted are correct and belong to the one who's name is on the application.

If you receive benefits from NSFAS, UIF or other government agencies, you won't qualify for the R350 grant. You also won't qualify if you have other sources of income.
