The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) announced that they are experiencing delays in processing reconsiderations for the R350 grant because the previous contracts expired when the grant ended and a new procurement process needed to be followed.
In the new round of grant applications, applicants had the option of receiving the grant via their bank accounts, through the post office or the cash send option.
Unfortunately, those who chose the cash send option are experiencing delays in their payments.
Paseka Letsatsi, Sassa spokesperson, stated that they anticipated that the process of making sure that the contract between Sassa and the four major banks would have been concluded quickly so that those who chose the cash send option could receive their grant without delay. However, the process between Sassa and the treasury took longer than expected.
Letsatsi states that although they want to ensure beneficiaries receive their grants as soon as possible, they need to first ensure that the processes of government are followed to the letter.
According to the Sassa spokesperson, those who chose the cash send option and are still waiting for payment may change their payment option in order to receive their grant quicker.
These beneficiaries may choose to receive their money from the post office or via their bank accounts.
