SASSA Clarifies R350 Grant Payment Backlog Issues

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) wants eligible R350 grant beneficiaries who may have qualified in the previous months to understand how bank account payments are processed when there has been a backlog.

Over the past few months, the South African Social Security Agency has been processing payments for the second cycle of the R350 Social Relief of Distress Grant.

However, this has not been without challenges as some applicants have grown impatient and have stated on Twitter, that they have not received their grant payments for months.

in response, SASSA has said that qualifying applicants should note that their grant payment will be processed during the month in which they were informed that they qualify for the grant, including the current month if they still qualify.

SASSA further explains that in the case of a payment backlog, the payment may not be doubled within the same day but instead split over days or weeks.

If the applicant qualifies in that month of the application, he/she will be paid for that month & for the current month if they still meet the application criteria. The payment may not necessarily be a double payment / lumpsum or on the same day. It can be split over days or weeks

This is especially the case for applicants whose SASSA SRD grant payments had been deposited to an inactive bank account during the first cycle.
