The Gauteng Department of Basic Education is calling on all parents and guardians to upload all relevant documents onto the system or submit them at the school they applied to within seven days of their application.

This follows an urgent reminder that the 2022 phase 2 online admissions for Grade 1 and 8 learners will end at midnight on Friday, 8 October 2021.

Gauteng Education Spokesperson Steve Mabona added that the majority of parents applied through the online system. He also points out that parents who have applied will start receiving confirmation SMSes on 15 October 2021 as this will mark the start of the placement period.

Mabona also confirmed that the Department has so far received more than  270 000 applications in this second phase. This being slightly lower than the 351 169 applications that were recorded during phase 1 which officially closed on 3 September 2021.

The spokesperson further stated that they likely not be able to accommodate parents in some areas where the demand for school admission was higher than the department anticipated. The department also aims to finalize the placement period on 30 November 2021.
