It has been reported that the Third Phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI), implemented as the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), is making good progress.
This phase is left with under two months before it comes to an end on 31 August 2022.
In a statement, Department of Basic Education (DBE) spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga said:
PYEI has created more than 830 000 employment opportunities in the Basic Education sector.
This shows a meaningful contribution to addressing the challenges of youth unemployment in the country.
It is said that most of the employment opportunities were occupied by women.
Mhlanga also shared that one of the main obstacles that young people have with gaining access to employment is the ‘lack of relevant work experience.
Through this initiative, the youth has been provided with training to improve their skills, such as Online Safety, offered by Digify Africa, Artificial Intelligence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (AI in the 4IR) offered by the University of Johannesburg, and Digital Literacy, offered by NEMISA.
These courses have been selected as the youth will gain skills, knowledge and competencies which are needed across a wide range of jobs.
All three training courses differ in terms of duration and the participant will receive an accredited certificate.
Basic Education has made provision for the Assistants to be given access to the internet in their schools, and in some instances, a top-up to the monthly stipends has been provided to purchase mobile data.
It is also said that some of this training can be accessed on zero rated platforms, provided by the training partners and training is free of charge.
For additional information on possible opportunities, the youth are requested to join Teacher Connect WhatsApp on 060 060 3333.
