A Ministerial Committee of Inquiry has been recruited to conduct an independent investigation into the business processes, systems and capacity of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

The role of this committee is to make recommendations on how to administer student financial aid in the future.

Professor Yunus Ballim, former Vice-Chancellor of Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley who has also been professor of civil engineering at Wits has been appointed to chair the Inquiry, stated Nzimande.

They are aiming to complete the work requested within a period of six months.

Randall Carolissen will serve as administrator until August 2020, while the Inquiry will be taking place. Nzimande emphasised that the inquiry is independent of NSFAS and not to serve as administration for NSFAS.
