Motshekga Has A Message For Matric Learners

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga has sent her well wishes to the matric class of 2020 as they have less than 2 weeks left until they write their final exams.

The minister has reminded learners that they will be writing their exams under different circumstances this year since Covid-19 caused many disruptions to the education system.

The combined exam, scheduled to start on 5 November will be the largest exam that the department has administered. More than 1 million candidates are expected to write.

“We certainly have never had to manage a number that large before. It is going to be a huge task, but one that we will need to ensure it is managed and coordinated smoothly.”'

She assured learners that all has been done to make sure that the exam centres are safe ahead of the exams.

"Remain focused, I know you can make it. Good luck, revise and just get ready for your exams,” said Motshekga.

Learners have been encouraged to use the learning resources that the department has made available.

This includes Woza Matric which is a programme that the department introduced to help learners access learning materials and study tools.

The programme airs seven days a week, from 8:00 - 10:00 and 13:00 - 15:00. Learners can access it on SABC 3, Openview Channel 122 and DStv Catch Up.

Woza Matrics covers a range of grade 12 subjects like:

  • Maths
  • Maths Literacy
  • Life Sciences
  • Geography
  • Physical Science
  • Accounting, Economics
  • English First Additional Language
  • History

Results for the final exams will be released on 23 February 2021
