The Minister of Higher Education has called for an investigation into the tragic death of two TVET College students which occurred earlier this past week.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande urged law enforcement to conduct an investigation into the circumstances around the death of two students from Orbit TVET College.

I am also pleased that the College management undertook to give its full support and co-operation to the investigators to determine the exact cause of this incident,

The two students, Mr KG Melamu and Ms Madgeline Manyama are reported to have drowned at the hotel’s swimming pool on Tuesday night while at an SRC strategic retreat at a Potchefstroom hotel when the tragedy occurred.

The minister also confirmed that both students were declared dead on the scene.

Manyama was an Electrical Infrastructure and Construction level 3 student as well as PRO Officer at the college's Mankwe Campus, while Melamu was an Office Administration Level 4 student who also served as SRC Sport and Recreation officer.
