MEC Confident About Final Matric Exams
The MEC for Education in Mpumalanga has said that he is confident that learners are prepared for the upcoming final matric exam.
As the 2021 final matric exam is set to begin on 27 October 2021, Mpumalanga's MEC for Education Bonakele Majuba says that learners in the province are ready for their final exam.
He was speaking during a visit to Magigwana Secondary School in Thulamahashe, Bushbuckridge to check preparedness ahead of the matric exams.
Magigwana is among the best performing schools in the province, achieving a 100% pass rate in 2020.
Out of the 276 learners who sat for the exam 211 passed with a Bachelor's Degree entry level while 58 met the requirements for further studies towards a Diploma.
The MEC also believes that the learners will continue to do well this year despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.
We planned to get 83% before Covid-19, but unfortunately, we couldn't get it due to disturbances during the previous year. We hope and believe that we will now be able to achieve that 83%, although we want every child to passes meaning that ultimately need a 100%"
The parents of the learners said that they were impressed with the work and that they will continue to assist where needed.
One of them added that they work with the School Governing Body to routinely check on whether the learners are fully focused on their studies.
Each of the learners said that they were confident that they will pass as they have been attending extra classes throughout the course of the 2021 school year.
More than 62 000 registered candidates in the province will sit for their final matric exam at 560 centres.
