The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) introduced the Cashsend option as a payment method for those who received the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. However, for a while, the payment option was not available to beneficiaries.

Recently, the Cashsend option was reinstated and SRD grant beneficiaries may now make use of the payment option. This payment method is available to those who do not have bank accounts.

The Cashsend option is also known as the Post Bank service. The service allows grant beneficiaries to use their ID numbers and cellphone numbers to access their grant payments.

Beneficiaries need to have a cellphone with a registered cellphone number and proof of identification to apply for the payment method. They may visit the Post Office nearest to them to access this payment method.

Grant recipients may be aware that Sassa uses various other paypoints as well to distribute the Covid-19 SRD grant. This is to ensure that beneficiaries receive their grant payments as quickly and conveniently as possible.

They may collect their grants from the following places:

  • South African Post Office
  • Personal bank accounts
  • Pick n Pay
  • Boxer Stores
  • Checkers
  • Shoprite
  • Usave
  • Selected OK Foods Supermarkets.

Sassa also reminds beneficiaries that they do not need to collect their grants on the date when it is available. The grant will remain in their accounts until it is needed.

By waiting a few days before collecting their grants, they may avoid the long queues outside of these paypoints. However, it is understandable that not everyone is able to wait a few days because they may desperately need the grant to pay for essentials.
