This years’ IEB matric results were slighter higher at 98.39%, as in the previous year, the board had received a pass rate of 98.06%.
This has also happened at a time when experts believed that the Covid-19 pandemic was going to hammer this years’ matric results.
One learner admitted that the matric year was challenging, yet equally rewarding.
However, the IEB matric results have proven them wrong as learners managed to bag many distinctions and a higher pass rate than expected.
A St. Johns College pupil is heading to Havard University after he achieved an average of 95.9% and nine distinctions.
Bongwe is one of one-third of pupils at his school that managed to achieve more than six distinctions.
Schools had to adapt in creative ways to make sure that pupils were up to par when it came to their academics, as the matriculants spent most of their 2-year learning period online.
The National Alliance of Independent Schools Associations’ Ebrahim Ansur said:
We’ve got to really compliment these children on their resilience. It’s not easy to cope with school life.
Ansur praised the IEB schools for improving the overall pass rate compared to the class of 2020.
