Many prospective students in South Africa are unable to register at a tertiary institution for the 2022 academic year to pursue their dream qualification because they can't afford the costs associated with tertiary education. This is why many students make use of scholarships and bursaries such as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary.

NSFAS is a government bursary which funds disadvantaged South African students who are studying at public universities and TVET colleges.

The bursary scheme received around 906 000 applications for funding during the 2022 application period.

Many Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges have commenced the 2022 academic year and some students who have applied for NSFAS still do not know the outcome of their application. This could prevent many of them from registering for the current academic year.

Here’s how to check Your NSFAS Application Status

Step 1: Login on the myNSFAS student portal here

Step 2: Enter your username and password, then click SIGN IN!

Step 3: Click on Track Funding Progress.

NSFAS has stated that their portal is continuously updated and applicants are encouraged to visit the portal daily to check their application status.

If your application has been rejected by NSFAS then you can appeal.

Click here to find out how you can submit an appeal to NSFAS.
