The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) announced that its online admissions system will remain open and accessible throughout the application period.

It has been confirmed that the application period for boarding schools in the province is from 22 July 2022 - 19 August 2022, and parents have been advised to apply as early as possible. With boarding schools, learners don’t commute back and forth between their schools and homes.

In a statement, Gauteng Education has announced:

Parents & guardians can apply for residence directly at their identified boarding schools in Gauteng until 19 August 2022.

The department has also urged that parents ensure that the details that they enter into the system match the information on the documents they will upload or submit. Parents and guardians applying on behalf of a learner have been instructed to upload or submit the following certified copies of learner documents:

  • Parent/Guardian ID or Passport
  • Child ID Or South African Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Refugee Permit or study permit
  • Proof of home address
  • Proof of work address (optional for those applying at a school closer to work)
  • Latest school report and Clinic card/Immunisation report (Grade 1 learners only).

Parents have the option to either upload the documents to the online system or to the school of choice within 7 days of making an application for admission.

Nationally, the Education Department was faced with late applications and unplaced learners in the first quarter of school, it is for this reason that it is best for parents and guardians to make applications as soon as they can.
