Last week, the 2023 placement process for Gauteng schools commenced, meaning that parents and guardians will now be receiving SMSes with placement offers.
In a press briefing, former Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi explained that the SMSes will be sent out on a continual basis until the end of the placement period on November 30.
Lesufi also voiced that the Gauteng Department of Education will reopen the system for late applications.
Those who were unable to apply, will be granted an opportunity to apply during late registrations.
Late registrations will open on 1 December 2022 and will close on 15 December 2022.
Parents who apply during this period will only have the option to select schools who still have places available.
Those who applied during the application period will receive placement communication via SMS that will be sent to the mobile numbers that parents/ guardians used during the registration process.
"If you did not receive an SMS immediately, don’t panic we are releasing them in batches and we are releasing them every day until we have managed to conclude the process."
Lesufi added that if parents no longer have access to the provided mobile numbers, they can still check whether their child was placed by using their credentials to log on to the www.gdeadmissions.gov.za website.
If parents/guardians have lost or forgotten their login passwords, they can reset it by clicking on the “forgot password” link.
Once parents have received placement notifications, they have a day 7-day period to confirm and accept the offer.
Parents are reminded that placement notifications will only go to those who provided a valid proof of address if they neglected to provide a valid proof of address their child will not be placed.
