Students at UNISA are quite upset about exam dates for certain modules being brought forward by almost a month. Bringing exam dates forward gives these students less time to prepare however UNISA has denied this.
According to the university exam dates are subject to change by the university and not the students.
In order to be heard, these students vented about their frustration on Twitter. They complained that some students were only given hardcopies of study material last week.
Students also complained that those who wrote the Principles of Management Accounting module in May were admitted for October/November supplementary exams even though they have not received those results yet.
According to the Sunday Times Daily, students wrote to minister Blade Nzimande’s office. Within the letter they asked that he help them in requesting UNISA to reschedule the final year exam dates.
This has been done so that students will be given an adequate amount of time to study.
UNISA claims that their exam timetables were released no later than 13 September however according to third year Bachelor of Commerce students their exam timetable was only issued on 27 September.
“I was expected to submit five assignments by September 22 and five more by October 2. We now have to write five exams from October 21. This is totally unacceptable,” says a third year Bachelor of Commerce student.
This student said that one of her exams were moved up by a month and when she addressed this issue she was told that the Economics department could not change this, only the university.
Students are feeling extremely stressed and anxious leading up to their exams as they do not have much time to prepare.
