Although Umalusi has approved for matric results to be released, the results of learners implicated in the irregularities that took place in KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng will be withheld until investigations are concluded.
It is reported that two pupils at a school in Gauteng have been implicated, as well as one in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Department of Basic Education has confirmed that it’ll deal with its educators accordingly.
The irregularities were a result of unauthorised/early access to question papers detected at some of the examination centres in the two provinces.
These were Life Sciences and Agricultural Sciences papers that were the affected subjects in those centres.
A statement by Umalusi read:
This practice can potentially compromise the integrity of examinations if it is not addressed decisively.
Investigations by the Department of Basic Education and verification by Umalusi are underway.
Umalusi has appealed to all stakeholders involved in the examination process to steer clear from engaging in such unethical acts.
It is also worth noting that there are severe consequences
Umalusi said these malpractices do not reflect well on their examination system and the education system in general.
