The Health Department has issued a press release stating that an initial statement released on Wednesday night, stating that health regulations for pupils in schools were concluded was incorrect.
School kids still have to wear masks in classrooms as well as at other indoor gatherings. However, they don't have to wear masks outdoors at school.
The Department would also like to bring to the public attention the confusion created by unfortunate and regrettable human error in the media statement issued yesterday about the removal of face-mask wearing by children at school. This is not part of the gazetted health regulations.
The Health Department added that, as a result, like other people, school children are required to continue to follow the restrictions of Regulation 16A.
These health regulations include the wearing of face masks in classrooms and other indoor gatherings. According to the health department, masks continue to be a good non-pharmaceutical preventative measure against Covid-19
In addition to this, Health Minister, Dr. Joe Phaahla announced an extension for Covid-19 regulations, in order to allow for public comments. The new closing date for the submission of public comments on health regulations is now 5 July 2022.
