Dept Already Processed Over 100 000 Online School Applications For 2022
The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that it's made progress in just four days since opening the admission process for phase one of the 2022 school applications.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has released a media statement saying over 100 000 applications was captured for admission in their phase one of online applications which serves Grade 8 pupils. The online applications for phase one opened last week, 10 august 2021.
GDE has reached over 52 000 successful online applications for admission in two days. The GDE also added that by Friday last week, over 104 5404 applications were successfully processed.
The statement compliments the department staff for their hard work saying an average of 5 000 calls were dealt with in a day including walk-in centres across the province.
GDE thanked the parents and guardians for their cooperation which made the first phase of the online application process for 2022 easier so far.
The department says the application process was not without challenges, with some of the parents and guardians having to correct application details with the help of their staff.
The GDE said there were complaints from parents about schools that didn’t assist with the verification of details but the department managed to overcome these obstacles.
The parents and guardians were guided throughout the application process by the department staff, says the GDE in a statement.
The Department however encourages the parents and guardians with outstanding details to please contact their children’s schools to ensure that details have been updated.
They added that affected parents and guardians should contact the GDE district offices or report to walk-in centres and they can also contact the GDE call centre at 0800 000 789.
The GDE also seeks to emphasize that the current online application process is taking place through a two-phase approach to ensure efficiency.
Phase one of the online application process for 2022 serves pupils in Grade 7 that will be going to Grade 8 in 2022. Pupils must be residing in Gauteng and studying in a public school.
The first phase of the Grade 8 applications for 2022 will end by 3 September 2021. The phase two applications for 2022 is set to begin on 13 September 2021.
Phase two will focus on Grade 1 pupils and also on Grade 8 learners that are coming from outside Gauteng public schools or not staying in the province.
MEC for Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi says the two-phase approach for 2022 online applications is made in the best interest of all applicants.
