CPUT Student On Res Tests Positive

Cape Peninsula University of Technology has confirmed that a student on res has tested positive for Covid-19. 

A student currently on res at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has tested positive for Covid-19. This would be CPUT's first res Covid case. 

The student who tested positive is currently under quarantine, along with those she came into close contact with. 

CPUT has stated, "The quarantine process is being managed by the Campus Health Clinic according to the guidelines of the Western Cape Department of Health. CPUT’s Business Continuity Management Unit, who is overseeing the institutional COVID-19 response, is also closely monitoring the process."

The building affected is being sanitised, with CPUT focussing on the spaces the student and those who were in close contact with her frequented. 

There are now 17 Covid-19 cases in total that the University is monitoring. This 17 comprises of 9 staff members and 8 students. 

CPUT has said that, "This case highlights the need for everyone in the CPUT community to continue taking lockdown restrictions seriously and to adhere to the on-campus protocols. This case highlights the need for everyone in the CPUT community to continue taking lockdown restrictions seriously and to adhere to the on-campus protocols."

The University is still in the process of deciding which students are going to be allowed to return to residences under new regulations. 

"No student who resides in residence (and is currently at home) must travel back to campus prematurely and without official permission from the institution to do so," said CPUT Management.
