Bidvest Caught In School Drama

There have been rumours circulating on social media about Bidvest receiving a tender to clean schools. Gauteng MEC for education and youth development, Panyaza Lesufi, has spoken out about the rumours.

"It’s not true" said the MEC in a tweet addressing the rumours on Twitter. "Bidvest made a donation to clean previously disadvantaged schools free of charge as part of their social responsibility programme."

This comes after a Whatsapp screenshot caused conversation on Twitter about how government tenders favour big companies, like Bidvest, while leaving out smaller companies.

In an attempt to put the rumours to rest, MEC Lesufi posted photographs of the contract which stated that Bidvest's involvement was a donation and not a paid tender contract.

Bidvest will be decontaminating schools before learners return school on 1 June 2020. Among other things, the company will also be donating 2899 sanitizers and 1156 thermometers to screen the temperature of learners and staff.
