The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is gearing up for the 2025 academic year.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This funding includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances.
The government bursary scheme will fund thousands of students from poor and working-class families. This funding ensures they can obtain a tertiary education qualification without being excluded due to affordability.
Many students are wondering whether there will be NSFAS Allowance payments in January 2025.
Will There Be NSFAS Allowance Payments In January?
NSFAS allowances are divided into 10 instalments annually. This means that in January 2024, students will not receive any allowance.
NSFAS only pays allowances for 10 months every year, during the academic year.
The academic year commences in February and ends in November for most institutions which means that NSFAS pays allowances from February until November.
It's important to note that NSFAS has revealed its preparations for the 2025 academic year. Part of this includes allowance payment plans.
NSFAS confirmed plans to pay R3.7 billion to universities in January 2025. This will be for the provision of allowance payments for students including those enrolled in Health Science Programmes.
Some students may therefore receive allowance payments in January 2025 if they are enrolled in Health Science programmes.
