The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants payment dates for June 2024. Now that beneficiaries of the SRD grant know when they will receive their R370 Sassa grant payment, it would be good to know where they can collect their money.

SRD grant beneficiaries will be paid from Monday 24 June until 29 June 2024.

Payments (for clients who are approved for June 2024) will be processed from 24-29 June 2024.

Where To Collect SRD Grant Payments For June 2024

If you have been approved for an SRD grant payment in June 2024, then you have two grant payment collection options. You can either have your SRD grant paid directly into your bank account or collect the money at a supermarket.

Supermarkets that are authorised to pay SRD Grants include Pick N Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OKAY and Spar.

Sassa reminded beneficiaries that their grant payment can take between two and three days before it is reflected in their bank accounts. Once the money is reflects in their bank account, they can begin using their grant money.

Who Will Receive SRD Grant Payments In June 2024

Only approved SRD grant applicants will receive a payment in June 2024. This approval is subject to the outcome of various verification checks undertaken by Sassa to ensure a grant applicant qualifies to receive the unemployment grant.

When applying for the SRD grant, applicants need to provide their ID number, name, and surname. This information is validated by the Department of Home Affairs to verify the applicant's residency status.

The applicant's ID number is cross-referenced with databases from the South  South African Revenue Services (SARS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to assess your financial situation to assess financial status and to ensure they are not receiving any other government relief.

Both the ID number and mobile number are subjected to a fraud risk scoring process. Upon completing these checks, Sassa evaluates the application and makes a final approval decision.

Future Of The SRD Grant

The SRD Grant is paid to approximately nine million people living in South Africa every month. It's important to note that this is the only grant directly intended to assist unemployed adults living in the country.

The government allocated R33.6 billion for implementation of the grant until March 2025. However, provisional allocations indicate that extensions may be possible through March 2027.

This indicates a potential long-term commitment to the programme, but final decisions on funding beyond 2025/26 will be determined in future budgets.

How Much June SRD Grant Payments Will be

The increase of the SRD Grant announcement by the minister in April 2024 was R20. This brought the total value of the SRD grant to R370 which is how much approved SRD grant beneficiaries will receive.
