The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payment dates for July 2024 have officially been confirmed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Approved R370 grant applicants can now plan to collect their money.
Sassa has confirmed that SRD payments will be rolling out progressively between 25 July and 30 July 2024.
Where To Collect SRD Grant Payments For July 2024
Approved SRD grant beneficiaries have two grant payment collection options. They can either have their SRD grant paid directly into their bank account or collect the money at a supermarket.
Supermarkets that are authorised to pay SRD Grants include Pick N Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OKAY and Spar.
Sassa reminded beneficiaries that their grant payment can take between two and three days before it is reflected in their bank accounts.
Who Will Receive SRD Grant Payments In July 2024
Only approved SRD grant applicants will receive a payment in July 2024. This approval is subject to the outcome of various verification checks undertaken by Sassa to ensure a grant applicant qualifies to receive the unemployment grant.
When applying for the SRD grant, applicants provide their ID number, name, and surname. This information is validated by the Department of Home Affairs to verify the applicant's residency status.
The applicant's ID number is cross-referenced through several databases from the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to assess their financial eligibility as well as ensure they do not receive any other government relief.
Both the ID number and mobile number are also subjected to a fraud risk scoring process.
After these checks, Sassa will determine whether or not the applicant will receive an SRD grant payment.
Future Of The SRD Grant
The SRD Grant is paid to approximately nine million people living in South Africa every month. It's important to note that this is the only grant directly intended to assist unemployed adults living in the country.
The government allocated R33.6 billion for implementation of the grant until March 2025. However, provisional allocations indicate that extensions may be possible until March 2027.
This indicates a potential long-term commitment to the programme, but final decisions on funding beyond 2025/26 will be determined in future budgets.
