The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government institution which is responsible for providing NSFAS bursaries and loans to students who come from poor and working class backgrounds. NSFAS funding goes beyond just covering tuition fees as it covers registration, accommodation, transport, learning materials as well as other student needs.

This NSFAS funding extends to both public university and TVET College students.

NSFAS has now released the 2024 NSFAS application dates for TVET Colleges. Due to TVET Colleges following a different academic timeline, NSFAS has had to avail application dates for each trimester and semester.

NSFAS Semester 2 Applications

In a statement released, NSFAS said that students should apply for the relevant academic cycle which they intend to register in. Semester 2 applications for NSFAS bursaries will open from 9 July 2024 and close on 26 July 2024.

This allows students a period of just less than three weeks to apply for NSFAS.

How To Apply

NSFAS has explained that the way students applied for funding in the first part of 2024 will remain the same for the rest of the year. This means students should apply through the myNSFAS portal on the NSFAS website when applications open.

The myNSFAS portal serves as a centralized platform for students to apply for financial assistance, providing a streamlined process for submitting required documents and information. By accessing this portal, applicants can easily navigate through the application steps, ensuring that their submissions are completed accurately and efficiently.

If students need assistance, they can also visit the financial aid office at their college.

NSFAS emphasizes that students who encounter any challenges or require guidance throughout the application process can seek assistance from the financial aid office at their respective colleges.
