The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is urging parents and guardians in the province to respond to Grade R placement offers for the 2025 academic year.

The provincial education department has been delivering school placement offers for Grade R admission for the 2025 school year since 17 September 2024.

The outcome of the 2025 school year applications for Grade R are now available! Parents can view the outcome here. Accept or decline offers before 30 September 2024.

Applications for Grade R in the Western Cape opened on 1 August and closed on 16 August, giving parents around two weeks to submit their Grade R applications.

2025 School Admissions

The WCED received 102,680 applications for Grade 1 and 8 placements for the 2025 academic year, marking an increase of 5,936 compared to last year’s 96,744 on-time applications. The application window closed on 12 April 2024.

The WCED expressed gratitude to parents who applied on time, emphasising that early applications aid in planning and ensuring smooth student placement.

Schools have over a month to review these applications. Parents do not need to submit certified copies at this stage—these will only be required if they accept a final placement offer.

Application results were available online from 30 May 2024. Once the placement offers are made, parents had until 14 June 2024 to accept or decline the placement. However, this has been extended.

The WCED warned that If no action was taken by 14 June 2024 by parents, the system would automatically assign the top-ranked school with an available spot, withdrawing any other offers to make room for other students.

For Applicants Without a Placement Offer

Parents who do not receive an offer are advised not to be discouraged, as openings may become available as other parents make their final choices. The WCED remains dedicated to placing all learners whose parents submitted on-time applications.
