The Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) has begun sending out placement offers for the 2026 school year. Parents and guardians are urged to log in to the online school admissions system to check for offers and confirm placements.

Placement offers for Grades R, 1, and 8 are now available on the WCED admissions system. These follow the earlier application window, which closed on 15 April 2025. Schools have completed their review of applications, and parents are now receiving notifications in line with schools’ admissions policies.

Outcome of the Grades R, 1 and 8 applications will be displayed on the WCED admissions site on 30 May 2025.

Parents have until 17 June 2025 to confirm acceptance of these placement offers.

Parents have until 17 June 2025 to confirm acceptance.

WCED MEC David Maynier urged to accept placement offers as soon as possible. This will allow the department to offer placement to other leaners.

It is especially important for parents to confirm choices speedily if they receive offers from more than one school. These parents are essentially ‘double parking’ on the system, which prevents schools from offering these places to other applicants until they make their choice.

If parents do not  confirm their choice by 17 June 2025, the system will automatically confirm their top-ranked choice of school that has made an offer.

All other offers will then be removed, so that schools can offer the places to other applicants.

Check Your Login and Contact Details

The WCED continues to remind parents of the importance of keeping login credentials and contact details updated to avoid delays or missed notifications.

There is always a flurry of excitement, nerves, and anticipation on this date, and not being able to log in because of a forgotten password can be extremely frustrating.

Incorrect or outdated contact information may result in parents missing out on placement offers.

Every year, we encounter difficulties contacting parents whose details have changed. This can result in missed placements if they haven’t checked the system or can’t be reached by phone.
