The University of Johannesburg has officially resumed on-campus activity, as well as in-contact campus classes. UJ’s Vice-Chancellor, Tshilidzi Marwala went on to welcome the university’s new and returning campus community.
“Our campuses have sprung back to life, and excitement is palpable everywhere. It is evidently clear that many of our students have missed this true University experience during the Covid-19 lockdowns”
Professor, Marwala wasted no time in reminding students that Covid-19 is not over and assured staff and students that the institution has taken all the necessary precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19.
The higher learning institution intends to do this through the implementation of its mandatory vaccination policy, which according to the university, the majority of staff and students have already adhered to by uploading their proof of vaccination.
The mandatory vaccination policy holds that all U.J staff, students and visitors will be required to provide their digital vaccination cards to authorized University officials to confirm their vaccination status. This will then enable them to gain access UJ campuses and facilities.
UJ has further stated that all students who have not been vaccinated nor applied for exemption as per the stated deadlines, will be deemed as non-compliant with the Mandatory Vaccination Policy (with effect from Monday, 21 February 2022) and will thus not be allowed on campus premises.
Additionally, staff and students who have been exempted will be required to provide email proof of their exemption application outcome.
