The University of South Africa (Unisa) is now in the process of upgrading all student myLife email accounts.. Students can expect a brief service interruption of approximately three hours during the upgrade process.

Unisa uses an Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) approach to education. This means that students study from home and don’t attend any in-person classes. In recent years, the institution also began conducting its examinations online.

Following the upgrade, which is intended to enhance security, students will be required to create a new password for both their myUnisa and myLife email accounts whenever they use the "Forgotten Unisa Password" function.

Unisa is urging students to update their myUnisa/myLife passwords regularly. This can be done through the Microsoft Online Password Reset link, which is part of the university's multi-factor authentication system.

This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access to myUnisa/myLife, even if your password has been compromised.

Unisa has provided students with a guide to ensure stronger account security. The new passwords must be at least 12 characters long and include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

Students who need help creating a strong password can find tips and examples on the Unisa website. For further information or assistance, students can contact the Unisa toll-free number at 0800 00 1870.
