Phase three of the Presidential Youth Unemployment Initiative (PYEI) ended on the 31st of August 2022, meaning the time for Phase four has arrived.
Applications for Phase four of the teaching assistant jobs will open on 22 September 2022.
In the meantime, those interested in applying can visit the applications website from 5 September 2022 which will allow them to gather all the relevant information needed when applying.
Phase four of the PYEI, implemented as the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) in the Basic Education Sector will begin in February of 2023.

Youth aged between 18 and 34 years old will be able to register on the SAYouth.Mobi online recruitment system for the positions. The website is free to use and does not require any data.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) introduced the BEEI to create jobs in the sector, while also alleviating some of the high levels of unemployment amongst the youth.
Through the programme, around 280,000 young people were employed in various schools across the country as education and general school assistants.
Project Manager of the PYEI, Lala Maje, has encouraged South Africa's youth to apply for Phase four if they have not participated in the previous three phases.
Here’s Who Qualifies For Phase 4
- Youths between the ages of 18 and 34 years old when they apply
- Youth must live within a 5 km radius of the school (or 30 km radius if it is a small, micro or farm school)
- Education Assistant (EA) must have a Matric qualification
- General School Assistants (GSA) do not need a Matric qualification
Individuals who were previously part of the initiative will not be able to apply for Phase 4 teaching assisant jobs.
Applicants cannot be employed, participate in training or participate in a learnership programme, as well as participate in online/distance learning courses or short courses.
Full and part-time students also cannot apply for phase 4 education assistant jobs.
The PYEI has provided many of the youth with employment, as well as valuable training and job experience, with the benefit of receiving a stipend.
