The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has commenced with Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments for January 2025.
All approved SRD grant applicants will be paid from 25 January until 31 January 2025. Payments will only be made for applicants approved for the January cycle.
Sassa called on beneficiaries to complete a Sassa status check to see their exact SRD grant payment date.
Clients are encouraged to view their status on the SRD websites for the exact date that payment will be reflected in their bank accounts.
Where to Collect SRD Grant Payments for January 2025
If you have been approved for an SRD grant in January 2025, you have two collection options. You can receive your SRD grant directly into your bank account or collect the money from a supermarket.
Supermarkets authorised to pay SRD grants include Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OK, and Spar.
Sassa reminded beneficiaries that payments may take between two and three days to reflect in their bank accounts.
How SRD Grant Applications Are Evaluated
When applying for an SRD grant, applicants provide their details including ID number, name, and surname, which will be sent to the Department of Home Affairs for validation.
In the next step, the ID number is checked against various databases including the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to assess their financial situation.
It's important to note that Sassa will not pay SRD grant beneficiaries to individuals benefiting from NSFAS, the UIF or any other government entity.
Both ID number and mobile number undergo a fraud risk scoring process to verify the legitimacy of the application.
After all these checks are completed, Sassa will evaluate your application and decide whether to approve or deny the SRD grant application.
If your grant application was rejected and feel this decision from Sassa was incorrect, you can submit an SRD grant appeal.
