Many beneficiaries of the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant make use of the cash send payment method, which was introduced this year, to collect their grant payments.
In order to make use of the cash send payment method beneficiaries must provide a mobile number which is registered in their name in order to receive the R350 grant.
There have been many cases where R350 grant beneficiaries who use their phone number for cash send have seen their grants withdrawn by someone else without their permission.
If this has happened to you, then you are able to lay a case of fraud with the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) by calling their helpline.
Sassa has advised beneficiaries not to share their phone number with anyone to prevent grants being withdrawn fraudulently.
If you change your phone number you should inform Sassa and change your cellphone number and other details via the SRD website.
The Agency has recommended that beneficiaries opt to receive their grant through a bank account because it is the safest way to do so.
How to add banking details for the R350 grant:
- Visit the SRD website at srd.sassa.gov.za.
- Scroll down to the “How do I change my banking details” section
- Insert your ID number
- An SMS containing the Sassa banking details link will be sent to the mobile phone number used when registering for the SRD application.
- Open the banking details link in the SMS
- Capture Bank name.
- Capture Account type.
- Capture Account number.
- Click Submit.
It is important that beneficiaries provide their own banking details, as their grants will not be paid into another person’s bank account. This is to ensure that the grant payment goes to the correct person and to avoid fraudulent activities.
It is also convenient for beneficiaries to receive their grant payments through their bank accounts as they do not have to queue in long lines to collect their grants and they can access it from anywhere.
Should you have been rejected from the grant, you can submit an SRD appeal.
