The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has received millions of applications for the Special Covid-19 R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant and many applicants have been declined due to various reasons.
UPDATE!!! SASSA Is Now Processing SRD Grant Appeals, click here to read the latest details.
SASSA has stated that applicants who felt that they were unfairly declined should submit a R350 grant appeal, within 30 days of when their rejection status was made available to them.
Applicants are encouraged to check their R350 grant application status so that they can appeal as soon as possible.
Those who have made grant appeals or applied for reconsideration are now asking why they haven't received any response regarding the outcome of their appeals.
SASSA has said that all appeals for the months of August, September, and October have not yet been "attended to by the agency" and that no response has been sent to any applicants who have appealed.
Once the process is completed the applicants who qualify [for the R350 grant] will be processed for payment.
Many applications have been declined due to SASSA detecting an "Alternative Source of Income" of more than R595 entering applicants bank accounts.
Applicants have questioned why the agency doesn't first do checks on where the money came from and for what reason it was sent, before declining their applications.
In response SASSA said:
Reality is that this specific grant type is for people who have 0 source of income, despite of where it may come from. You however have the right to apply for reconsideration if you are unsatisfied with the outcome of your application.
If you would like to appeal your R350 grant rejection, here's how to do so:
- Go to the SRD Grant website
- Scroll down to 'Application for reconsideration'
- Click on the yellow bar
- Fill in the required fields
An appeal must be lodged for every month that the grant is declined.
