The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially launched the appeal process for individuals who were unsuccessful in their applications for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant in April 2025. The SRD grant appeal process is available to those who believe that they have been rejected unfairly.

Appeals can be submitted on various grounds, such as incorrect information on the application, changes in circumstances, or other valid reasons.

Applicants can submit their appeals online through the Sassa appeals website. When submitting the appeal, individuals must provide supporting documentation to substantiate their claim. This may include proof of income, identity documents, and other relevant information.

How To Appeal Your R370 Sassa Grant Rejection

  1. Visit the ITSAA website.
  2. Enter your South African ID number.
  3. Enter the cell phone number used during the application process.
  4. Click "Send Pin" and wait for an SMS with a verification code.
  5. Once you receive the pin, enter it and click "Submit."
  6. Select the month for which you are appealing (e.g., September 2024).
  7. Choose the reason for your appeal from the provided options.
  8. Click "Submit" to complete the appeal process.

The SRD appeals are evaluated by an Independent Tribunal, ensuring a fair and impartial assessment.

If your appeal is successful, you will receive an SMS notification. If you don't hear back within 90 days, you can check the status of your appeal online.

How to Check Your SRD Grant Appeal Status

If you’ve submitted an appeal, you can check the status to see if the ITSAA has upheld or overturned Sassa’s decision. Here’s how:

  1. Visit the Sassa Appeals Website: Go to the official Sassa appeals site.
  2. Enter Your Information: Provide your ID number and cell phone number.
  3. Track Your Appeal: Click "Track Appeal."

If your appeal is unsuccessful, you may need to take further action, such as approaching the High Court for a review.
