Sassa Status Pending
Many who have submitted Sassa grant applications for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant have found that their applications are stuck on 'pending'. We have some insight into what this means what you can do.
SRD Status Check
The SRD grant was introduced in 2020 and was supposed to come to an end in March 2024. However it has since been announced that it will continue. It will either become permanent or be replaced by another, similar, grant.
This may be the Basic Income Grant that has been spoken about for many years. At the moment this Sassa grant sees beneficiaries receive R350 per month.
What does a 'Pending' Sassa status mean?
Sassa has revealed that if you see "pending" on your application status, it means that your application has not yet been approved.
This is because Sassa is still in the process of scanning your details which they will need to verify before you can be approved as an SRD grant beneficiaries.
If your SRD application is approved, you will receive an SMS from SASSA requesting your bank details. Sassa will use these banking details to pay your money each month, so it is important that you make sure you provide the correct banking information, contact and personal details.
What to do about your 'Pending' Sassa status
Sassa recommends that applicants keep an eye on their SRD grant status for any updates. Once the application undergoes the verification process, the agency validates the applicant’s name, surname and ID number with the Department of Home Affairs.
To ensure that applicants are not recipients of other grants or sources of income, their ID numbers are matched against various databases such as Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), South African Revenue Services (SARS), and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
Thereafter the applicant’s ID number and phone number is scanned through a Fraud Risk Scoring process. If their application is approved then they will receive their payment using the Sassa payment method chosen when applying.
