The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has begun contacting shortlisted teaching assistant candidates for interviews as part of the fifth phase of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), which aims to provide over 200,000 job opportunities in schools across South Africa.
These positions include roles such as Reading Champions, Reading Assistants, e-Cadres/ICT Assistants, Curriculum Support Assistants (CSAs), Handypersons, Sports and Enrichment Assistants, Laboratory Assistants, and Workshop Assistants.
Shortlisting and Interview Process Underway
The DBE has confirmed that shortlisted candidates will receive SMS invitations for interviews from either their prospective schools or the relevant Provincial Education Departments (PEDs) between 19 and 31 May 2025.
The shortlisting process follows the ranking of applications against eligibility criteria, which is concluded on 18 May 2025. Interview invitations mark a critical step toward finalising appointments under this latest BEEI phase.
What Candidates Should Know
Applicants who are shortlisted must ensure they are available for interviews during the designated period. The DBE has advised that candidates who do not receive an interview invitation by 1 June 2025 should consider their applications unsuccessful.
SAYouth has stated it will not be able to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
When Will Successful Candidates Start Work?
Those who make it through the interview and contracting stages will begin work on 2 June 2025. Each successful candidate will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000 for six months, along with R30 for data.
The contracting of successful candidates is expected to be finalised by 31 May 2025.
