The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is calling on parents to accept placement offers as the provincial education department aims to place learners in the province.

These placements refer to learners whose parents completed Gauteng Admission Applications during the late application period.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona has urged parents of unplaced learners to utilise the online admissions systems to select schools with available spaces.

Gauteng late applications close on Monday, 27 January 2025, at 12:01 am.

Late Applications

The late application period is open for parents who did not submit any applications during the initial GDE period.

These parents must register on the GDE online platform and follow the outlined steps to complete their application.

The GDE urges parents to apply as soon as possible, as spaces at schools are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Failure to secure placement during this period could result in challenges for the 2025 school year.

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Register: Create an account with your details on the GDE Admissions website (https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/) and receive login credentials via SMS.
  2. Register Address Details: Provide your accurate home address information.
  3. Register Learner Details: Enter the necessary details about your child.
  4. Apply to Schools: Select your preferred schools (up to five). You'll receive an SMS with a waiting list number for each school.
  5. Upload Documents: Select your preferred schools and upload the required documents within 7 days. Certified copies can also be submitted to the schools.

Required Documents for Gauteng Admissions

  • Parent's ID or passport
  • The child's birth certificate or passport
  • Proof of work address
  • Latest Grade 7 school report (for Grade 8 applications only)
  • Immunisation report
  • Proof of home address

Parents are encouraged to accept placement offers as soon as they get them.
