Millions of individuals will receive social grant payments from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in the upcoming days as the February grant payment cycle commences. However, for thousands of vulnerable individuals, two months' worth of grant payments will be received after their grant payment was suspended in January 2024 for some beneficiaries.
The February 2024 Sassa grant payment dates cannot arrive soon enough for beneficiaries who last received Sassa grant payments at the beginning of December 2023.
Approximately 150,000 individuals, faced the suspension of their January 2024 Sassa grants due to discrepancies in their beneficiary details.
Sassa revealed that these discrepancies primarily involved mismatches between grant beneficiaries' ID numbers and bank details. This issue was brought to light by the Auditor General, raising concerns about potential fraudulent activities where scammers exploit the system to redirect funds.
Consequently, Sassa decided to suspend grant payments and urged beneficiaries to update their details promptly to ensure uninterrupted future grant payments.
Furthermore, Sassa assured that eligible beneficiaries who did not receive their January 2024 grant payment would receive a double grant payment during the February payment run, encompassing both their outstanding January 2024 grant payment and their February 2024 grant payment.
February Sassa Grant Payment Dates

- Disability Grants: 5 February 2024
- Children's Grants: 6 February 2024
Sassa stressed the importance of accurate information and urges beneficiaries to promptly update their details. The agency is actively addressing the backlog, verifying and disbursing payments to legitimate beneficiaries while cautioning against phishing attempts.
Beneficiaries who are experiencing challenges updating their details are advised to contact Sassa.
Beneficiaries requiring financial assistance can access their Sassa grants through various payment points, including ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.
