More About The Older Persons Grants

The maximum monthly grant amount for the Older Persons Grant is R2,180. However, if you are over the age of 75, you may be eligible for a slightly higher grant amount of R2,200.

To be eligible for the Older Persons Grant, you must meet several criteria. First, you must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living permanently in South Africa. Additionally, you must be 60 years of age or older.

It's important to note that you cannot be receiving any other Sassa grants for yourself and cannot be residing in a state-funded institution.

A means test will also be conducted to determine your eligibility for the grant amount. This test considers your spouse's income and assets to determine your combined financial situation.

There are several ways to apply for the Older Persons Grant. You can visit your nearest Sassa office, apply online via the Sassa website, or have someone you designate submit the application on your behalf if you are unable to do so due to illness or age.

Home visits by Sassa officials can also be arranged for those who cannot visit an office in person.
