The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) 2025 applications are still open. However, it won’t be open for long as the NSFAS 2025 application period closing date looms.
NSFAS confirmed that 2025 applications will close on 15 December 2025. This gives students just over a week to submit a NSFAS application for the 2024 academic year.
Why You Should Apply For NSFAS
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges.
This funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
The funding provided by NSFAS ensures that students from poor and working-class backgrounds can obtain a tertiary education qualification without facing several financial barriers.
Who Can Apply For NSFAS Funding
All South African citizens and permanent residents can apply for NSFAS funding. However, specific income thresholds and academic requirements must be met.
Individuals applying for a NSFAS bursary must have a combined household income not exceeding R350 000 per annum before deductions. Individuals living with disabilities can have a household income of up to R600,000 for a NSFAS bursary.
Students can have a combined household income over R350 000 and below R600 000 and qualify for the NSFAS loan.
Beneficiaries of South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants automatically qualify for NSFAS Funding.
