Millions of South African rely on social grants every month, especially the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant as it allows them to access basic goods and services.

The R350 SRD grant was temporally introduced to assist those who lost economic opportunities and were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In order to qualify for this grant, all candidates must be unemployed, be between the ages of 18 and 59 years old and earn less than R624 per month.

The agency has reminded applicants that if their application is rejected, they can submit a request to have the application appealed via the Sassa website, should they feel that the reason is invalid.

Here’s how to submit your SASSA grant appeal for April:

  1. Visit the Sassa website.
  2. Click on the green bar that says 'click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status'
  3. Enter your ID number.
  4. Enter your cell phone number.
  5. Click 'send pin' and wait for the SMS which will contain the verification pin.
  6. Enter the pin and click 'submit'.
  7. Select the month you are submitting an appeal for.
  8. Select the drop-down arrow and choose the reason for your appeal.
  9. Click submit.

Appeal applicants are reminded that the R350 grant applications are re-evaluated by Sassa every month. This monthly re-evaluation aims to ensure the grant applicant is still in need of support.

All R350 grant appeals are administered by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance (ITSAA) and are intended exclusively for SRD grant beneficiaries.

According to Sassa, the ITSAA uses various databases to verify information provided by appeal applicants to verify their eligibility for the grant. The databases are used to confirm personal information and income information as well.

Once the Independent Tribunal has processed your appeal, they will inform you of the outcome of your appeal electronically, within a period of 60-90 days from the lodging of the appeal.
